In this highlight article, The AFIT Foundation is recognizing Major Megan “Nermal” Burk, Flight Test Engineer and Operations Analyst stationed at the Pentagon!
Major Burk graduated from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology in 2015 with a master’s degree in applied mathematics with a focus in information theory. She wanted to join the military because it is worthy work.
When asked about her favorite memory at AFIT, Major Burk said it is hard to pin down a specific time. She enjoyed talking to elementary school teachers about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Another memorable moment was when she spoke to someone at her friend’s birthday party, only to find out that he sat two seats down from her in class at AFIT the next day! The connections one makes through the Air Force can last for a lifetime.
One sign that AFIT positively impacted Major Burk’s life is that she has a tattoo related to her thesis research! AFIT taught her to be a better critical thinker, as well as having confidence in her research and technical writing abilities. She gained skills that helped her with getting into and succeeding at test pilot school and beyond.
Major Burk advises those who are considering going into the military to make decisions wholeheartedly. Thank you, Major Burk!
