In this issue we highlight Michele E. Johnson, PhD, Assistant Professor of Officer Development Integration at the United States Air Force Academy!
Dr. Johnson graduated in 2003 from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) with an MS in Information Resource Management. Originally, she wanted to join the Air Force to be a pilot after watching Top Gun while in high school! Dr. Johnson retired from active duty in 2020 and joined the Academy’s Center for Character and Leadership Development as a DOD civilian later that year. She now serves as an Assistant Professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy where she is a leadership educator.
Dr. Johnson’s favorite memory during her time at AFIT was meeting her cohort! Many of them are still friends and in contact often. Dr. Johnson mentioned, “It’s been fun following along with all of their careers and families. Our cohort was at AFIT on September 11, 2001. One of our core memories is where we were on that day and who we were with. One of my favorite moments was ringing the bell after defending my thesis!”
AFIT helped Dr. Johnson become a life-long learner. She applied for the program to obtain a master’s degree. However, her time at AFIT inspired a shift in how she views education – it’s a life-long journey!
When asked about advice she would give to those considering entering the military, Michele said, “The military has been a great career choice for my family! I spent 25 years in uniform, and I continue to serve as a DOD Civilian. There are so many different opportunities to be a part of amazing teams in the military. I highly recommend it!” Thank you, Michele!
