In this issue we highlight Major (retired) John Love. John graduated from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology in 1965 with a MS in Engineering Space Physics. After his graduation from AFIT, John continued his career at the A.F. Avionics Lab at the WPAFB in Dayton, Ohio. During this tour, John co-authored six papers on Photoelectric Diodes published in the Journal of Applied Optics and subsequently awarded multiple U.S. patents.
Major Love desired to join the military due to his love of science, flying, and the Air Force. His favorite memory at AFIT was his experience with his Quantum Mechanics professor, Dr. Leno Pedrotti. According to Major Love, he made the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle seem as simple as 1+1=3 (binary math).
AFIT positively impacted Major Love’s life because it showed him the absolute necessity to let ethics and integrity guide one’s every action. He learned that service to others outweighs service to self. Major Love’s advice for those who are considering joining the military is to never let the current political climate guide your decision. He also encourages people to love THE COLORS with an unbridled passion and serve her in the greatest uniform on the globe- the military uniform. The image below is of Major Love and his late wife, Nancy. They met during John’s assignment at the (former) Air Force Base in Marquette, Michigan. She loved and supported him for over 50 years. Thank you, Major Love!
