In this article, The AFIT Foundation is recognizing Major General Mike Greiner, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Budget of the United States Air Force.
Maj. Gen. Greiner received his MS in Cost Analysis from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology in 1996. He initially joined the military because the Air Force offered a ROTC scholarship to financially support him through college. He continued to serve because he desired to serve his country, be a part of something bigger than himself, and work with the most incredible people he has met. Maj. Gen. Greiner currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Budget, also known as the DAF Budget Office. He is responsible for planning and directing the formulation and execution of the Department of the Air Force’s budgets, totaling more than $194 billion annually.
Maj. Gen. Greiner’s time as a student at AFIT as well as Arizona State University taught him critical thinking skills that he uses daily. He also appreciates the opportunity he had to return to AFIT and teach in 2001. When asked about what he would say to those entering the military, Maj. Gen Greiner writes, “It was the best professional decision I’ve ever made. There are so many opportunities, and our DAF leaders genuinely want you to be successful.” Thank you, Maj. Gen. Greiner!
